ANNOUNCEMENT

              THE INTERNATIONAL AI-ED SOCIETY and
THE INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATION

In order to provide better service to the field, the forty members
of the AI-ED Society Executive Committe and of the JAIED Editorial
Board have resigned from AACE (which previously supported the
AI-ED Society and published JAIED) and have established an
independent International AI-ED Society with its own publication,
the International Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education
(IJAIED) published on the WWW and on paper.

Membership of the International AI-ED Society provides:

* Substantial reductions in registration fees for the biennial
International Conferences on Artificial Intelligence in Education,
organised by the International AI-ED Society. The next AI-ED
conference (the 8th) will be in Kobe, Japan in August 1997.

* The opportunity to participate fully in the development of the AI-ED
field, by being part of the electronically-linked international
community. The 24 members of the Executive Committee themselves
represent 13 countries.

* A subscription to IJAIED, the premier journal in the AI-ED field.
As well as peer-reviewed papers, IJAIED includes news and feedback
sections to keep members informed of AI-ED developments. IJAIED is
published on the WWW (with an optional paper version).

INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATION
                     is now on the WWW

             Better quality More timely Cheaper

* Established in 1989, JAIED became the No. 1 journal for the AI-ED
field, being the top-referenced journal at AI-ED and ITS conferences.
IJAIED has the same scientific standards as its earlier version,
guaranteed by having the same editors, editorial board and reviewers.
IJAIED is a peer-reviewed, archival journal which serves as the main
communication medium for the International AI-ED Society. The WWW journal
enables IJAIED to capitalise on the benefits offered by the WWW, such as
links to multimedia demonstrations, and to evolve in a manner suited to
the nature of AI-ED research.

* IJAIED papers are published as soon as they have been accepted, without
the long delays of the traditional publishing process and the
constraints of page counts. Thus, readers have instant access
to top-quality papers. IJAIED supports 'rolling feedback' for each
article to allow dynamic discussions of the content of each paper.
IJAIED also includes details of AI-ED news and other information
in a more timely fashion than is possible with normal journals. (The
paper version includes only the refereed papers.)

* The regular individual membership fee for the International AI-ED
Society is 45 US dollars or 25 pounds per year, or 105 US dollars
or 60 pounds for 3 years. For students, the membership fee is 25
US dollars or 15 pounds a year. The paper version of IJAIED is
available for 60 US dollars or 35 pounds a year. A membership form is
given below.

Details of the scope, standards, submission procedures and contents
