Yes, I'd like to know, too.  Do you mean why so few AI researchers at
MIT and elsewhere followed up on the works and ideas of such students
as Ernst Slagle, Sutherland, Bobrow, Evans, Winograd, Winston,
Fahlman, Sussman, etc., for two or more decades, and went for all
sorts of lower level theories instead??
