		   CALL FOR PAPERS - MONTPELLIER-95
			specialised conference on
		TRANSPORTATION AND CONSTRAINT PROGRAMMING
**************************************************************************

in the framework of the international Conferences dedicated to
		INTELLIGENCE SYSTEMS IN BUSINESS
			June 26-30, 1995
			Montpellier, France

**************************************************************************

GENERAL INFORMATION:

A large proportion of technical problems relating to transportation
remain difficult in terms of modelling and computer processing.
In fact most of them are complex problems of configuration, planning,
routing, resources allocation, scheduling, distribution or time-tabling.
Constraint programming seems to have some success in modelling and
solving general problems of the above categories, and particularly as
far as transportation is concerned. For this reason, the specialized
conference on transportation, to be held within the framework of the
annual Montpellier conference dedicated to intelligent systems in business
(following the previous Avignon conferences 1981-1994), will focus on a
critical assesment of constraint programming applications to solving
real-life transportation problems.

TOPICS

Submissions are invited in all area dealing with the various transportation
modes (air, intermodal, railway, road, sea, waterways) as well as the
different functions carried out in transportation organizations. Typical,
but not exclusive topics of interest are:

	* management of goods and passengers (load planning, information
systems, booking control, flow management, passenger-baggage
reconciliation, time-tables, departure control, yield management,
	etc.),

	* infrastruture management (line allocation, dispatching, traffic
control, gate/platforms management, parking bay allocation, etc.),

	* fleet and personnel management (crew rostering, staff scheduling,
maintenance planning and scheduling, refueling, logistic planning,
	etc.).

Submitted papers should describe the approaches used and specify their
limitations, user interaction, the way the applications are integrated
within main stream computer environments as well as the way they complement
other approaches (eg. simulated annealing, neural networks, genetic algorithms,
taboo methods, etc.).

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS:

Conference languages are English and French.
The deadline for submission of extended abstracts (two to four
pages) is April 3, 1995. All abstracts received will be refereed by
an international programme committee and each paper will be reviewed by
at least three independent referees. Authors will receive the committee's
decision from April 20, 1995. The authors of accepted abstracts will
subsequently be required to provide a full paper (10 pages in 21x29,7
format, i.e. approximately 5,000 words) by May 9, 1995. The final text
will be included in the proceedings, which will be distributed at the
conference.

Submitted abstracts should include a front cover page giving:

	* the title of the paper and the author(s) name,

	* the author's address, phone number and extension, fax number and,
	if possible, e-mail address,

	* a 10-line abstract together with a list of key words,

	* and indication of which application area the paper should be
	included in.
