Services

Announcements

Friday, January 27, 1995, 8:30 to noon, at Citibank, 399 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10022
"A Framework to Empower Your Knowledge-based Applications with Mainframe
Strength".

A framework is presented, proven in such applications as bond pricing
analysis and various trading floor decision support implementations, for
incorporating knowledge-based techniques, such as neural nets and genetic
algorithms, and off-the-shelf products, such as Visual Basic and Excel, into
an integrated framework optimizing compute and data-intensive tasks for
quantitative dynamic decision support applications in financial institutions.

This concept provides a PC/Workstation cluster environment with
mainframe-strength compute performance capabilities, and with the use of
available software products, relative ease of use and standardization.

Under discussion will be collaborative computing, the integration of multiple
platforms which may be running under various operating systems, i.e. Windows
NT, OS/2, Solaris, and their enhancement with an SMP environment and parallel
processing, message passing, synchronization primitives, group message
composition and decomposition, file synchronization, and a blackboard
mechanism. Use with the database products offered by Sybase, Oracle and
Informix will also be surveyed.

A bond pricing application will be discussed in depth, and also other
relevant applications to be found in the financial and investment community.

Speakers

Troy Nolan, President of Norrad Inc., a developer of AI Integration and
parallel processing services to the financial and brokerage community. Areas
of expertise cover parallel databases, expert systems, neural nets, genetic
algorithm s and parallel processing with clustered workstations.

Greg Burns, Senior Super Computer Specialist at the Ohio SuperComputer
Center. He architects and leads parallel technology development projects. He
has architected and distributed tools and systems for massively parallel
computers and clustered workstation networks. He is currently developing
products based upon distributed object technology.

Future Announcements

March 29, 1995, Hal White of UCSD will present some tips on neural net
work design as well as bring us up to date on his venture, Neuraltech, Inc.

May 10, 1995, speaker and location to be determined.

What is SMART F$ ?

SMART-F$ is an interactive forum for information exchange, a network of
Advanced Technologies professionals in the Financial Services industry.
We are a non-profit user group, set up to help you apply advanced technology
to
firm stay alive in the few years to come. SMART-F$ may be the place
to ask questions no one in your firm can answer for you - questions like:

o My advanced technology group is very small. How do I effectively
transfer this technology across my company?

o How do I introduce advanced technology to the MIS group and get
their support in linking it to existing mission-critical
applications?

o How do I cost justify emerging technologies? Will traditional
                        cost-benefit models work?

o My firm hasn't even investigated many of the advanced technologies.
                        How do we get started?

What do we offer?

o Five meetings a year where renowned industry leaders speak of
advanced technology issues, projects and products.

o Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that focus on areas like career
development, investment management, neural networks, and a support system
to help form SIGs in other areas of interest.

o A Network of advanced technology professionals from hundreds of
companies that have already invested in advanced technology, and
are reaping its benefits and want to talk about it.

Paradigms we normally cover

              o Fuzzy Logic
