I'm missing the original posting here, but I'll venture a guess that
the topic is solving mazes using CAs. If so, this can be found in
DDJ February 1993 (#197), which is the Cognitive Computing issue, 
starting on page 32. The title of the article is Cellular Automata 
for Solving Mazes. It's by Basem A. Nayfeh.
