Is anyone aware of past or present studies performed on users of
case-based and rule-based systems to see whether and to what extent
those users "absorb" the methods employed in the respective systems?

As a secondary question, is a case-based or rule-based system inherently
superior for training novices, or is the answer dependent on the domain
in which the people are being trained?
