I`m a freelance journalist looking into AI for the BBC`s Today Programme
on Radio 4 (a daily news analysis programme with an accent on serious news
coverage). I`m researching a feature on the likely effect of recent
advances in AI. In particular, on the effect that expert systems and
advanced `decision making` programs are increasingly having on bussiness.

It seems that the uses of AI in mainstream applications are increasing
all the time, and that we should soon see a widespread change in the way
the field is percieved. What do you think?

What I want to know
-------------------

What interesting stories are unfolding in the field of AI?
What kinds of decisions are currently being made by machines that used to be
made by humans?
What kinds of decisions can we expect machines to be making which will
effect our lives in the near future?
Can anyone give examples (prefferably UK ones) of interesting AI
implementations in the bussiness world?
Who should I talk to about the latest developments (again prefferably UK,
but I`d consider doing phone interviews abroad)?

I need to be able to draw on specific examples to explain what AI is really
all about.

If anyone can help please e-mail me at christian@darkin.demon.co.uk

Thanks in advance.

I am a freelance, writing and making radio features for several different
markets, so if anyone has anything interesting, even if it`s not
concerned directly with the above, I`d always like to hear about it.

Ta.
