I ran an experiment this afternoon to see if my son Jeremy showed any
evidence of cognitive deficit in processing somatic data and found none,
BUT my wife Diane then mentioned some of the exercises that had been a
part of Jeremy's PT. Specifically, the therapist had worked with him by
drawing figures on his back that he had to recognize. She had also had him
close his eyes and try to recognize objects by feel. He had learned these
skills, but it had taken effort, and he had had to work out alternative
methods of doing the motor cortex processing. So, while cognition is
normal, there is evidence of a cognitive deficit in processing touch and
somatic sensory data. This would be in line with Held's data.
