Assuming that you are talking about sending field patches to customers,
the only reliable way to do this (as far as I know) is to send source
code, which the customer then installs (and saves the new image!).

I used this mechanism very successfully at a former employer.  However,
most Smalltalk vendors require you to strip out the compiler prior to
distributing an application (dumb, IMHO).
