 1) I found the first section of the blue book,
"Smalltalk 80: The Language and it's implementation"
to be the most comprehensive, and understandable, presentation of the language.
I think that the first part of the book is available in a different edition.
The blue book is no longer in print (I bought mine in '83 or '84).

  2) Digitalk was selling their 16-bit Windows version for 199USD a while back.
Warning! The tutorial is OK, but leaves you with the feeling: "Great, but
where do I go from here", when you want to start on your first real-world app.
