Yes it is true that Carleton Univ. uses Smalltalk in CS1, but we are also
taught C, and Turbo Assembly in CS1 as well. In 2nd year, we continue with
Smalltalk, and also learn C++. In fact, in CS1 I was taught Smalltalk by
W. Lalonde, and in CS2 I am taking C++ from Lalonde.
