(Everyone's probably forgotten the original thread of this, but I can't face quoting,
beyond: you can do it, but it's very expensive)

Some friends of mine in London who've been working for some time on the Domestic Robot
problem have produced some air-driven muscles, ranging in size from a few centimeters
up to a foot or so. These are very powerful, and incredibly easy to build with. They've
started selling kits of them, with some control hardware (rs232-driven io board,
valves, control software for Acorn Archimedes) and a bunch of these muscles, for <400
pounds. If you wanted it without the control software, they'd probably give it to you
for less.

If anyone's interested, I can provide a name and address to contact; I'd be really
happy if some of you bought some stuff off them, as this robotics project is currently
un-funded, and this looks like the only way to get funding for it...
