With what? "Hi, man" would be pronounced <HAI M&N>, not <HAI m@n> (& = the
vowel in "man", IPA ae ligature).

     This doggerel to mighty Hymen
I pen, and eek to Simple Simon,
to demonstrate the art of rhymin'
one's lines with Shakspere's Athens' Timon.

Besides, at least hereabouts, adults rarely say "Hi, man" -- the serpent
might have, but it ran into Eve first and the rest is myth -- "Hey, man",
or "Hi, dude", maybe, but not "Hi, man" -- and even kids usually say "Hi,
mister".
