It may be in the rec.puzzles archive, I didn't bother going that far.

Anyway, the record had got up to 20,000 words plus, by Geoff? Hastings in 
New Zealand, then someone came up with the fact that "sides reversed is" 
is a palindrome whcih can be inserted between two copies of any 
palindrome to make a longer one (2n+3) words. Hence by recursion an 
infinite palindrome is possible. End of nice story.
