[%] (IPA ae ligature) and [W] (IPA slash o), respectively.

In laymans terms, like <a> in English 'ash' and <o-umlaut> in German
'schoen' "pretty" (with the caveat that the vowels in both these 
examples are long, whereas the corresponding Finnish vowels can be 
either short or long; when long, they are doubled, i.e. "a"a and "o"o).
