Does anyone know of any PC software (Dos or windows) that can turn a
greyshade bitmap (BMP, TIF, GIF or any other standard format) into a 2D
array of intensity values (ideally in spreadsheet format)? I'm trying to
scan photos of fossils, and get a graph of greyshades along a given line.
I can write something to do this if I have to, but it would be far less
hassle if something exists already...

Any suggestions much appreciated!
