Forgive my ignorance, but does GeoTIFF allow for image depths other
than 8 bits?  Many of us work with Digital Elevation Models (DEMs),
which require more than 8 bits, depending on the relief in the area
covered.  There are applications that require floating-point DEMs.
Can these be encoded in GeoTIFF?
