I do not know if an Intel box running Linux will work or not,
but I can give you the information you need to find out.

First - Your DocuTech must be running v3.1 software and you
must pay for the TCP/IP Filing feature to be installed on the
DocuTech.

Second, of course, you must have a pre-existing TCP/IP network
in place.

Third - You must have the Network Server for the DocuTech (it
must be what we call a DocuTech Network Publisher as opposed to
a DocuTech Production Publisher).

With these conditions all met - here are the specs for your FTP
Server:

This feature requires any connected TCP/IP filer server to
support the following:

- A Minimal FTP implementation (per RFC) plus the following
features
  1. LIST: Verbose list
  2. NLIST: Name list
  3. MKDIR: Make Directory
  4. Wild card expansions where the wild card character
is "*". Note: Wild card expansions must be the default
     for LIST and NLIST operations
  5. A heirachial directory structure indicated by the Object
names separated by the delimiter character. (For example,
VMS operating systems do not meet this criteria).
  6. Remote File System naming conventions that support the
DocuTech raster encoding mechanism of 28 character
     file names.

There are two levels of functionality provided at the DocuTech,
generic and enhanced.

GENERIC
for file servers that support generic FTP implementations. This
is the "Type 1" server denotation in the filer server list
set-up System Administration dialog on the DT135. Servers that
meet the Type 1 designation include those running SCO Unix or
something like the LIUNIX shareware (Guess it is okay after
all) :=)
NOT INCLUDED ARE THE TCP/IP FTP IMPLEMENTATION ON NOVELL
NETWARE AND BEAM AND WHITESIDE!!
Many PC based FTP products do not support he required wild card
expansion and are therefore not candidate file servers.

Generic "Type 1" servers will support store, retrieve, list and
delete operations through FTP implementations

ENHANCED
An enhanced level of support will be provided for file servers
that support (both systematically and functionally) the Sun OS
4.1.3 FTP implementation and have both the 5bin library and
telnet installed. File servers with Solaris 2.1 and 2.2
operating systems would be included in this group. This is the
"Type 2" server denotation in the filer server list set-up
System Administration dialog on the DT135.
This enhanced level of support geared toward the Sun hardware
and software is because of a very close business relationship
between Sun and Xerox.

Enhanced "Type 2" servers will support all of the features of
the generic implementaion plus:
- Display of size and data for stored jobs during
  Publisher list operations
- Guaranteed store and retrieve
- Indication of free space on the server

The big caveat for the Type 2 server is "Guaranteed" store and
retrieve versus if it works great, if not, your on your own for
the Type 1 server.

If you purchase the TCP/IP option for the DocuTech you should
receive an Operator reference guide which will give you full
performance information and document storage requirements for
the FTP server.

I hope this information clears up any confusion about this new
DocuTech feature.

Roger
