I'm looking for a short (2-5000 word) list of the most commonly-used English 
words. I'm assuming that this is somewhat difficult, since "common" depends 
on yur context, but something like a list of unique, non-proper-name words 
derived from a bunch of newspapers would probably do the trick. Part-of-
speech info nice, but not necessary.

Any sources or ideas gratefully received. (Email directly to 
mikest@ratsys.com, please. My newsreader isn't showing me articles, for some 
reason).
