you can use I/O modules connected to each output bit of the
parallel port. These modules can swith either a DC or an
AC load (depending on the module you get :-) ) using a TTL 
level signal from the computer.  Additionally, you can use
a multiplexor and the I/o modules and have them switch 
loads depending on the input word from the parallel port.
