A wireless modem is simply a modem that uses an RF link instead of a
telephone link. Thus, you can use it for serial communications from point A
to point B with no wires in between.

Motorola is one maker of them. U.S. FIRST uses Motorola's RNET 9600-slm
wireless modems for our "robot" competition. This model is roughly the size
of a pack of cigarettes + a 3-4 inch antenna, and is supposed to have a 2-3
mile range and operates at speeds up to 9600 baud. We don't use it at such
large distances, though.

I have seen another, larger, model put out by another company that does
19.2k baud. (Sorry I don't remember what company.)
