I was up at Confer Metals in Sunnyvale, California Saturday, and they
had six used pneumatic robot arms. (Herr Professor probably hasn't seen
them yet, so no comment from him.) These seem to have several pneumatic
cylinders and some rotators. Length is perhaps five feet with mounting
bracket at the end. (Sorry, no claw.) There where also some kind of four
or five foot high stands for them, I think. Tim wanted about $100 each,
probably willing to dicker. I am not into pneumatics, so I passed on
them. Call Tim, 408-243-8999. He will probably ship them if you ask
nicely, but they are a bit heavy, I think.
He also has a big heavy IBM robot arm with a claw. Price might be
similar, but the thick control cable was cut by some imbicile.
He's got a lot of other stuff there including plenty of CRT's, computer
parts, and really strong magnets from some kind of huge disk drives, and
two sonar transducers... but they came from a navy ship and proably
require just a tad too much power... Though they could probably clean the
fish off the bones...

Call Tim between 10am and 5pm, and check out the robot arms before they
get recycled for scrap aluminum.
