I think you are on the right track.  The Harley belts are strong - Kevlar reinforced.
But, they are kind of pricey - around $75 I think (haven't had to replace on yet).

Anyway, I think it would be smart to find a belt used on a very popular car or
similar.  That way you could go to any discount auto parts store and buy them cheap.
Just an idea.
