Sure,  just use the standard motor outputs and energie the step motors in 
the correct sequence to turn the motor.  For a single pole motor you'll 
need four outputs  and for a biploar motor you can use just two outputs 
per motor.  I have an old article in Circuit Cellar with details.

I did just that last night with  my 6.270 and _wow_ did the bot go FAST!
Just be a little careful since the LEDs for the IR beacon and motor LEDs 
run on the same supply dont go much higher than 12V.
