     I have a few of the 40 character by 4 line lcd displays. It
looks like they are the same as the 20 character devices except
they have 40 characters :) What I mean is there are simply two
20 character devices attached to one display. There's a 16 pin
connector rather than a 14 pin header. I assume the extra two
pins are for some sort of chip select but I haven't figured that
out yet. I don't know what each of the pins are yet but I will
be using a continuity tester to find out where each of them goes.

     Does anyone have any more info on this ? They use the usual
Hitachi chipset.
