May I suggest _Mobile Robots_ by Joseph L. Jones and Anita M. Flynn?
Its very good and also very current, published in 1994 it talks alot
about building robots with LEGOs for the mechanically impaired and
programming and elecronics with small, portable micros. A kit is now
available to get the micro and software but I cant remember where to buy
those.

Have fun!
