Robert:

I would recommend JJ Craig's Introduction to Robotics: Mechanics and Control 
(Addison Wesley, 1986). It concentrates on manipulators. 

If you also want kinematics of mobile robots, try Phillip McKerrow's book,
which, confusingly, is also called Introduction to Robotics (Addison Wesley, 1993).

If you want some course material, let me know. I used to help teach such a course.
