Just incase you haven't seen it yet, Marvin Minsky has an article about
robotics in the Oct.'94 issue of Scientific American. This is a special
issue devoted to "Life in the Universe" and Minsky is a cover article
author. The article, titled "Will Robots Inherit the Earth?" is very good
and easy to read. In it, Minsky seems to argue that robots are the next
step in human evolution. There is also a neat picture of COG and a mention
of Hans Moravec's work at CMU.

I have no affiliation with Scientific American, Marvin Minsky, MIT or CMU.
I just know a good article about robotics in the popular media when I see
one :-)

Marvin and Hans: if you see this and you have any addtional thoughts on
the subject, we'd all appreciate a post... some seem to think the
comp.robotics newsgroup is devoid of real substance anyway! For example,
what do you see as some of the steps between where we are now and our
eventual mind-children?

Clint
