Don't know about OS/2 but QNX should certainly do the job.  We are using it
for real time acquisition and control including linking 5 cpus and sharing
the computing burden across a small network.  We have two full blown PC's while
the other three are diskless, consoleless STD bus nodes.  If you do go with,
QNX, I strongly recommend getting in on a training course as there are 
techniques which  can drasticly improve the effectiveness of the code and
which were not obvious to an old DOS hand like myself.
