[sorry about the double post, i forgot to insert some corrections]

Okay, i've been asking many specific questions, now, leme present you my
whole project, and i'd be very gratefull if anyone sends me any suggestions.

I wana control step motors through a pc's parallel port. he's the idea...

Motor spec: 'Big Inch Motor' by HSI (?)
            2 phase
            8-10vdc
            3.6w
            2deg/step

Pallel port spec: 5.2vdc
                  13mA

My idea was:

        7407 juice (+5v ext power sup1) stepper juice (+9v ext power sup2)
                              | |
                              v v
  +5v comp's paral port --> 7407 (inverter) -> 5v relays -> 8-10v stepper
                              | |
                              v v
paral port's grn ext power sup's grn

What i've heard so far:

- 7407 max input power 5v (right?)
- i _could_ use transistors (but i don't know the first thing about
  transistors! :( you have to understand i'm a comp.sc student (on a
budget), electronics is only a passtime for me -- i only had one semester
  of electricity/magnetism/electronics back in college.)
- i should use a diode and a resistor somewere in this? (maybe)
- i could use a transistor or optoisolator instead of the 7407 (i don't know
the first thing about transistors or optoisolators! and if i did use a
couple, should i also use a diode? a resistor? anything else?)

Note: - my only real problem/dilema is how to switch the 5v relays, the rest
seems okay. (i can send my circuit maker design on request). tnx again
to all that will reply (hopefully) ;)
      - I _have_ to use relays because my steppers, they're 2 phase (4
wires).

tnx in advance for all the possible help i can get.
