Recently i have been making enquiries about cheap small robots (paid for
out of my own pocket) to do some research on autonomous agents. I had been
recommended the HexWalker (TM - sic) as a cheap walker and the Mini-Board
as a controller; I am using a Mac (or even a Newton!) as the programmer.

Now it turns out that we have 100,000 British Pounds to spend on various
things! Of that 30,000 could be available for robots - if my proposal is
good enough!!!!!!

Can you help me with information and suggestions for my proposal. What I
want to achieve is enough robots and accessible software support (e.g.
reasonable programming languages) to teach robot programming for the
students (i.e. the educational payoff!), and something big enough to do
'proper' work on (the papers, journals, etc = research assessment payoff).

What do you recommend? Assume that you have 10-30,000 pounds (or dollars.
assume 1:1 transfer after taxes shipping etc for USA products).
Help me spend the money (at least window shopping!) and make some
suggestions. It would be nice if some ideas for student projects and staff
research directions could be included; tell me what exciting things you are
doing with robots! I am particularly interested in multi-agent systems (of
which the robots would be a part, communicating with each other and a
central 'control').
Yours Mike Reddy
