I have to agree with Clint here, I think a split would be a bad idea.
Already the posts to c.r are less than 50 per day, I know of (as mentioned
earlier by some one else) groups that have upwards of 100 posts a day
that don't split.

Personally  I also like the varied topics as I get to see what is going on
in other areas of robotics and where the active research is.  I also like 
the idea of being able to reach a wide variety of people that might have
very specific information on a question that I have.
