You can get 68HC11A8 chips for $2.50 each from Beall & Glenn
Enterprises : 1-800-874-4797

They also sell 68HC11E1 chips for $3.00, Fast (12 MHz crystal) E1's
for $4.00 each. AND a development board featuring 32K EEPROM and a
68HC11E1 for $45.00 (kit $36.00) ... the board includes 2 disks full
of software (IBM stuff).

I am a satisfied customer. Ross is primarily a machinist that has
found a source of these chips he gleans from solder-fault automobile
computer boards. He desolders them and sells them at a low price. He
buys the boards by the pound direct from the manufacturer who does
not find it cost effective to recycle boards for their components. He
also sells the other components off the boards: 5 Amp H-Bridge
circuits for $2.50 per set. ... plus lots of other goodies that a
Robotics tinkerer (like me) might enjoy. Give them a call.... they
are pretty friendly and helpful folks.
