I'm not sure this is the correct group to post this to but...

I'm after a general purpose C routine to be able to read and write to
as many pins from the parallel port of the PC as possible.
Actually I'm trying to turn a PC into a burgular alarm controller.
I was going to hook up each detector to each data pin of the parallel
port. So I need to be able to read each pin  to see if the detector has been
set off. Each pin will become a detection "sector".

Please send any information you can. I'm trying to use an real IBM PC and
IBM PC clone 286 (NEC APC IV). Thanks for your help.
