I work for a telescope.  That may not really seem like a robot to most of you.
But it moves in many dimensions.  You have the telescope itself which moves to
follow objects across the sky.  You have several mirrors that move (for focus).
You have instruments that all have various moving parts.  These are usually all
controlled via computer with either incrumental or absolute encoders (or
both!).

So you may want to check into this field if you are interested in
robotics.  Its
true that we have no neat arms & grippers and wheeled things that run around,
but there are plenty of precisely controlled parts to a telescope.
