They are not small, and I wouldn't try to lift one up to your
table :-) but you might want to consider a used BIG gantry-type
robot for your application.

We have a Unimation-6000 robot here and you should be able to
place your table AND your working volume under the arm. It
uses the classic VAL-II for control and communication, and
the light-duty wrist can carry 40 lb.  

There should be some of these around and available for sale.
