A friend of mine (m.c.b.smith@uel.ac.uk) is currently engaged in composing
for the IEE in this country a text on the subject of building and running
micromice. I'm trying to get him to get internet access, and to
demonstrate the usefulness of said access, I mentioned the ongoing
discussions about such things in this group.

Now, he would like anyone who has built a micromouse to produce some sort
of writing on the subject (`DC Motors vs Steppers - the Noise
Ramifications' `Paint Colouring for Wall-Followers' `Maze Mapping By
Numbers'...) you know, what they did and why, and to send it to him.

Whilst I don't think there's any money involved, I am certain that there's
a name-drop in it, and possibly even an actual publication...

There's another reason why I think this is a Good Thing: One of the
reasons IMHO that robotics hasn't advanced quite as fast as mainstream CS
is the lack of texts of any sort covering stuff; I can go out and buy 50
books on writing compilers now, but only about 2 on building robots. The
thought is that such a book will make it easier for people to see what has
been done, and so not to make the same mistakes, and will also help people
who would otherwise have thought the whole thing too hard to make some
attempt at doing it.

Well, if it interests you...
