!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COMMERCIALly AVAILABLE !!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

Smalltalk/X is not marketed by Tomcat but it is both developed
and marketed by eXept Software AG in Germany. Tomcat had been
marketing it up until the end of 1994. Claus Gittinger (the
developer of Smalltalk/X) and eXept have been doing the marketing
themselves since. eXept Software AG's current press release
for Smalltalk/X is as follows.

A. Haemmerle

------------------------- PRESS RELEASE -----------------------------

Smalltalk/X (ST/X) from eXept Software AG is now available. ST/X is a
complete implementation of the Smalltalk programming language with
development environment providing all of the advantages you would
expect from Smalltalk: a fully object oriented programming language,
a graphical development environment with editors, browsers, symbolic
debugger, incremental compiler and just-in-time compilation to
machine code as well as an extensive class library. In addition ST/X
includes a supplementary stand-alone machine code compiler and the
possibility to embed C code directly into Smalltalk methods. This
allows the exploitation and use of existing C libraries or a
performance improvement in the speed of time critical operations.
The ST/X documentation is available on line as hypertext (HTML).
In addition to the extensive user handbook an integrated class
documen-tation generator generates on line HTML documentation of the
ST/X class library and the application classes from the source code.
An integral part of ST/X is an HTML browser which is fully implemented
in Smalltalk. It supports network loadable Smalltalk applets and
smalltalk scripts embedded in HTML pages. This allows the development
of Internet and Intranet applications analogous to java. Currently
ST/X is available on AIX, HP-UX, LINUX, SUNOS, SOLARIS(Sparc), ULTRIX
and UNIXWARE operating systems. A Windows/NT version is currently in
preparation. There are both non-commercial and commercial licences
avail-able. The non-commercial license is available for $150.00 plus
shipping and handling. eXept Software AG is reachable at the email
address info@exept.ssw.de.
