Greetings Smalltalker:

August was an active month for the Smalltalk
Users Group on NYPC We
hosted a special meeting on August 6 during the
Object Expo/Java Expo
combined convention in NYC. Our guest was Ken
Auer of Knowledge Systems
Corp. presenting "A Symposium on Smalltalk &
Java".
At our regularly scheduled meeting on August
15, we had two presenters.
Kim Clohessy, VP of Embedded Systems at Object
Technology International, led
a discussion on virtual machines and how they can
be integrated in hand-held
devices, and Abdul Nabi of DevTeamOne spoke about
handheld trading devices
and mobile information systems.
     Our studygroup membership packed the
classrooms this month. Many are
participants in the IBM BESTeam and were able to
take advantage of an intense
3 day class in "Application Construction Using
VisualAge for Smalltalk" given
at the IBM Education Center on 8/27, 28, 29. Our
thanks to instructor, Jim
Brown, for a stimulating course that was right on
target.
Many also participated in a "GemSmith
Application Development for
GemStone 5.0" course which was conducted on Labor
Day weekend (Aug 31, Sept
1, 2) and "GemSmith Systems Management for
GemStone 5.0" course on the
following weekend (Sept 7, 8), both at
CompuTrainers. We truly appreciate
the cooperation of the Gemstone training group for
accommodating the
schedules of our members and CompuTrainers for
providing the space.

DATES TO REMEMBER:
-September meeting, Thursday, September 19th,
6:30-8:30 pm.
