I was using the new VW2.5 event stuff in my last place of employ and I
loved it. It is vastly superior to the arcane polling architecture. I
loved it for a few reasons.

1) It never broke, I found it to be very reliable
2) Performance picked up (percieved responsiveness)
3) MUCH easier to construct complex control structures

I've heard that PPD recommends use of the old system for "prime time"
(so why does event driven windows become the default when you file the
extension in?), simply because it has a longer track record. I think
though, that despite this being the "first cut" at the event driven
system, that it is still far better then the "tried and trued" polling
architecture. This goes to show of course, just how important a good
design is. Sometimes things just "gel", and so far the event control
system appears to be one.
