STA is a very strong ST environment on the Mac.  Its performance is very
good.  It's not as complete as VisualWorks (no fancy database
connectivity).  Its Smalltalk code is relatively standard (except for
the GUI stuff, as is the case for all Smalltalks).  Their language
extensions are rather convenient, and their external code linking tools
are outstanding.  

Of course, STA isn't nearly as expensive as VisualWorks to
VisualSmalltalk--STA is only a few hundred dollars.  I think it's a
great deal.
