To set the Widget tab order, open the canvas and shift-select 
each of the widgets in the order you want the tab to move the 
focus.  When they are all selected, choose 'bring to front' from 
the pop-up menu, and then install the canvas. 
 
That's not a trick, that's the 'interface' they provide.  It's 
documented in the manual.  But the procedure is so well hidden 
that I simply assumed that they provided no visual facility for 
it, so for a long time I didn't bother to look up how to use it. 

Makes one wonder what other marvelous features are provided that 
one never thought to look up.
