GEMSTONE THREE TIER CLIENT/SERVER TECHNICAL SEMINAR SERIES

If you are a software developer building business applications, this
announcement should be of great interest. You are invited to attend a
free educational seminar on using object technology to build
enterprisewide client/server systems. This seminar will give you a
complete understanding of how several key software development
technologies are enabling companies to build breakthrough business
applications.

The seminar will cover business object analysis and design,
application partitioning and the three-tier client/server
architecture. And it's not just marketing hype. Each seminar location
will include a keynote presentations given by industry experts from
the Patricia Seybold Group.

Three tier client/server architecture inserts an object application
server as a middle tier between the client and data sources. GemStone
Systems, Inc., formerly known as Servio Corporation, offers the
GemStone object application server that lets developers place the
objects that comprise an application across both the client and the
server. This application partitioning allows programmers to develop
the entire application using a single object domain model. And,
GemStone's object application server integrates relational or legacy
data to make it accessible to object applications.

The keynote speakers cover "The Importance of Business Objects in
Application Development." They are either:

John R. Rymer - Vice President, Patricia Seybold Group
Editor-in-Chief, Distributed Computing Monitor

John tracks emerging technologies in client/server architecture,
object-oriented computing, and network and systems management. He
offers an in-depth understanding of the industry today, and assesses
the opportunities and risks involved in each specific area. John holds
a bachelor of science degree from Ohio University. His focus on
information technology spans 13 years, as a consultant, researcher,
and writer.

Mitchell I. Kramer - Senior Consultant, Patricia Seybold Group

With more than 20 years in electronics, his background dates from the
original on-line systems of the '70s to today's highly-sophisticated
client/server environments. He is proficient in client/server
development tools and product architecture and design, and possesses a
talent for simplifying highly-technical concepts, for easy
understanding. Mitchell holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and an
M.S. in Computer Science from Rutgers University.

Topics that will be covered include:

* What business objects are, why they're important to enterprise
organizations, and the requirements for implementing them. Two tier
versus three tier client/server architectures and application
partitioning.

* The GemStone object application server.

* Smalltalk application partitioning and the GemStone Smalltalk
interface. Overviews of the tools for partitioning, code examples,
and a demonstration of Smalltalk application partitioning.

* Code management and versioning in Smalltalk and GemStone,
model-driven development, and lifecycle services.

* Case studies on companies that have deployed object application
technology.
