This is not a direct answer to the question but - an affect of PP going to 
win32s was a massive increase in memory requirements.  We used to run
fine on 16MB - but once we went ot VW2.0 the machine spent half it's life
swapping to the disk.  We upped the memory to 32MB and everything is back
to performing comparably to VW1.0
