Well, if your orignal intent was to check out the Smalltalk market 
for career considerations, you're not helping yourself here.  Dr.
Ralph Johnson is very prominent in the Smalltalk community, has
pioneered research in fameworks and patterns, and co-authored what
appears to be a very important book, "Design Patterns" (I just 
got it today).

But it won't affect your future in Visual Basic.
