I have `done' something like this, but I cheated.  I superimposed an
unbordered menu button with a readonly field.  Pressing the field
activates the button.  The trouble with this is that it requires you
to use the `select' button to invoke the menu, rather than the
`operate' button.  So I would also be interested in a rapid solution
--- I didn't think I had time to hack up a new NoController and wasn't
sure if this was the best thing to do, anyway.
