Attached is the press release that accompanied the release of the book
"Real-Time Object-Oriented Modeling" by Selic, Gullekson and Ward
earlier this year. Additional information of the ROOM method or the
ObjecTime toolset (which supports the ROOM method) can be obtained
by contacting me.

ObjecTime: Automating Real-Time System Development

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Book on Real-Time Method by ObjecTime Limited and Paul Ward
---------------------------------------------------------------

BOSTON, MA, April 20, 1994 --"Real-Time Object-Oriented Modeling", a new
book on an object-oriented method addressing the complete development
lifecycle needs of real-time systems and software, was introduced today
at the Embedded Systems Conference. The method emphasizes the use of
executable models for early validation of requirements, architecture,
and design combined with techniques for automatic generation of
implementations. The net result is reduced product time-to-market and
increased quality and productivity. The book is authored by two of the
founders of ObjecTime Limited, Bran Selic and Garth Gullekson, and by
Dr. Paul Ward, a noted real-time author, educator, and co-developer of
the Ward-Mellor real-time method. The book (ISBN 0-471-59917-4) is
published by John Wiley & Sons and is available now. The method is
supported by the ObjecTime toolset.

Real-Time Object-Oriented Modeling (ROOM) reflects the practical
experience of the authors in developing distributed event-driven
systems. As Jim Coplien, author of "Advanced C++ Programming Styles
and Idioms" says, "ROOM gives voice to the unspoken language in the
architect's mind. I know anyone who does serious work on large systems
will find it a treasure."

This is the first book that brings together,
in a harmonious approach, the advantages of object-oriented concepts
tailored specifically for the extremely complex real-time domain, with
an iterative and incremental development process based on the use of
executable models. A single consistent set of graphical modeling
concepts apply uniformly to the entire development lifecycle of
analysis, design, and implementation. The object paradigm, as provided
in ROOM, applies to the construction of reusable high-level design
components, not just low-level language elements.

The ROOM concepts originated from research done by ObjecTime's founders
and others at Bell-Northern Research on optimizing the development
process for complex real-time systems. Such concepts were combined with
the results of Dr. Ward's research and experience in that domain. Paul
Ward notes that "ROOM is a complete, mature approach to real-time
development that overcomes the limitations of early real-time
structured techniques, by adding sophisticated state machine support
and object-orientation. It is superior to general purpose
object-oriented methods in that it was conceived and optimized
exclusively for real-time development."

Paul Ward is co-developer of the Ward-Mellor method, and is co-author
of "Structured Development for Real-Time Systems", a standard text for
software engineers. Dr. Ward is a principal of Paul Ward Associates, a
New York firm providing training and consulting for real-time systems
developers, including courses on ROOM and ObjecTime.

ObjecTime Limited (Kanata, Canada) is a privately-held company
established in 1992 that provides products and services for developers
of real-time systems in the telecommunications, aerospace,
manufacturing and process control industries.

Real-Time Object-Oriented Modeling is available at technical book
stores or directly from John Wiley & Sons (in the US call
1-800-CALL-WILEY, in Canada call (416) 675-3580).
