GENERAL INFORMATION

The descriptions below are taken from the Calls for papers.

ILP-96

Originating from the intersection of Machine Learning and Logic
Programming, Inductive Logic Programming (ILP) is an important and rapidly
developing field that focuses on theory, methods and applications of
learning in relational, first-order representations.

Of particular interest for ILP-96 are papers that either:
* prove new results concerning algorithms which use inductive learning to
construct first or higher order logic descriptions or
* reveal relationships to theoretical work done outside of ILP, especially
work in program synthesis and transformation.

Details of implemented inductive algorithms are encouraged. Time
complexity results should be included. Experimental results within one or
more application areas should be tabulated with appropriate statistics.
Sufficient details should be included to allow reproduction of results.
Comparative studies of different algorithms running on the same examples,
using the same background knowledge, are especially welcome, as are papers
that explore new application areas for ILP.

LOPSTR-96

The aim of the workshop is to present recent work (including work in
progress) and discuss new ideas and trends in the following fields:
 *program synthesis
 *program transformation
 *program specialisation
 *systematic program development
in the context of declarative programming, and logic programming in particular.

Papers developing the relationships of these topics with other areas of
automated program development, such as implementation techniques, inductive
logic programming, meta-languages, program analysis, program specification,
semantics, query optimisation in deductive databases, software engineering,
proofs as programs, synthesis and transformation in the context of other
programming languages, are welcomed. Papers describing automated systems
for program development and overviews of recent work on the topics of
interest are also solicited.

ILP-96 co-located with LOPSTR-96

Sharing the basis of Logic Programming and also sharing the interest in
Logic Program Synthesis and Refinement in a wide sense, the co-location of
the ILP-96 and LOPSTR-96 workshops, is a very promising ground for enhanced
communication between the two research communities.

PROGRAM, VENUE, ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORTATION

Program

Delegates will have admittance to all ILP and LOPSTR sessions.
Approximately 1/3 of the sessions including the invited talks and
familiarisation tutorials, are in common. You will also get a copy of the
joint ILP/LOPSTR preconference proceedings. In addition, each participant
will get a copy of one post-conference book. The alternative book can be
acquired at an extra fee.

Workshop venue

The workshops will be held on board the ferry Silja Serenade, cruising
between Stockholm and Helsinki, August 28-30. The ferry leaves from the
Silja Line Terminal, V{rtahamnen at 18.00 on Wednesday the 28th and returns
to the same location at 8.30 on Friday the 30th. The workshops starts at
11.00 on Wednesday and ends at 15.20 on Friday. You can register and board
the ferry from 9.30 on Wednesday. Registration takes place in the Silja
Terminal before boarding. It is advisable to arrive at the ferry terminal
both in Stockholm and Helsinki, 1 hour before departure. PLEASE NOTE THAT
FINLAND REQUIRES VISA FOR ATTENDEES FROM EG. THE BALTIC STATES AND FORMER
YUGOSLAVIA. THIS HOLDS EVEN IF YOU STAY ON BOARD. For the purpose of
getting a visa, the local chair can provide a letter of invitation.

Accommodation

We have reserved a number of cabins on the ferry Silja Serenade. The
accommodation fee (for single or double cabin) includes two nights on board
the ferry Serenade from Stockholm to Helsinki and back. It also includes
two breakfasts (Thursday and Friday), two dinners (Wednesday and Thursday),
two lunches (Wednesday and Friday), coffee/tea and pre dinner cocktails.
For hotel reservations for additional nights in Stockholm before or after
the conference, please contact Stockholm Convention Bureau.

Transportation

>From Arlanda Airport, approximately 40 km north of Stockholm, you can take
a bus or taxi. If you take a taxi, go directly to the Silja Line Terminal,
V{rtahamnen . Ask for Taxi Stockholm or Taxi Kurir: fixed price 350 SEK. In
daytime, there are airport buses to City Terminalen at the Central station
every 10:th minute. From the Central Station you can either go by
underground (destination Ropsten, stop G{rdet and then 5-10 minutes
walking) to V{rtahamnen. If you go by taxi from The Central station the
price is approx. 150 SEK. If you bring your car, there is a parking place at
the V{rtahamnen, where the ferry leaves. The parking place is being
guarded. If you wish to park your car there, please reserve a place before
the end of July, telephone +46-8-662 00 46 or contact the workshop
secretariat.

Exceptional entry or exit points

In extreme cases you can join or leave the conference by arranging your
flights to Stockholm and Helsinki alternatively. Please contact the
Conference secretariat for details about the Silja Terminal in Helsinki.
