                        CALL FOR PAPERS

                          Workshop on
             Sequential Implementation Technologies
                for Logic Programming Languages

                    Held in association with
the 1995 International Logic Programming Symposium,
                     Portland, Oregon, USA

             Workshop date: December 8, 1995
             Submission deadline: September 18, 1995
             Email address: iw95@cs.mu.oz.au

The last few years have seen the appearance of logic programming language
implementations that approach the efficiency of the implementations
of imperative languages, yet there is still room for improvement.
The aim of this workshop is to gather together researchers interested in
implementation technologies for logic programming languages in order to
advance both the state of the art and the state of practice in the area.

The topics of the workshop include, but are not limited to the following:

* Standard and alternative implementation technologies:
compilation to C or machine code, binarization, memoization,
non-WAM based engines, as well as novel variations on the WAM.

* Optimization of logic programs,
  including source-to-source transformations.

* Analysis of logic programs for optimization,
  e.g. through abstract interpretation.

* Implementations of alternative logic languages,
such as Goedel, Life and Mercury.

* Performance evaluation of logic programming implementations.

We would like to encourage talks on and discussion about the implementation
and optimization of pure logic languages and on novel (non-WAM-based)
approaches to implementation.

Authors are invited to submit papers written in English, preferably not
exceeding 15 pages (5000 words). We encourage electronic submission of papers
as self-contained PostScript or LaTeX files. Submissions should contain
return mail and email addresses. We encourage prospective authors to first
send an expression of interest together with a paper title to the organizers.

Send email submissions to iw95@cs.mu.OZ.AU. Send three copies of paper
submissions to Zoltan Somogyi at the address below. All submissions will
be acknowledged by email within two days of receipt.

Important dates:

Deadline for submission of papers: September 18, 1995
Notification for acceptance/rejection: October 16, 1995
Camera-ready papers due: November 7, 1995
Conference date: December 4-7, 1995
