apologies if this gets posted twice. i don't seem to have much luck doing
this... i tried posting the
other day via another route, but i don't see the message posted yet.

i'm writing some algorithmic music stuff using the public domain copy of
Prolog-2 (*not* Prolog
II) on a 286 (I've also got PD-Prolog). i figured it was about time to actually
purchase a *real*
copy of the language, so (1) i could use advanced features, like tail-recursion
optimization (the
code is list-intensive), and (2) get some documentation on the version i have
(instead of
guessing features from atomprops/3 and cross-referencing C&M).

i talked to the people at Amzoid! about their interpreter, but they (1) couldn't
fit the code on a
360K floppy, and (2) couldn't guarantee that it would run on a 286. so much for
the bargain-
basement route.

i talked to tony dodd a couple of months ago, and he informed me that there were
*new* owners
to Prolog-2. he gave me a physical address and phone, but i'm a dumb american,
and these
++prefixes give me the willies. in any event, i /nuked/ the file by accident, so
no longer have the
information. i'm *blush* a bit embarassed to e-mail him again and ask for the
new owner's i-net
address...

in any event, i tried pinging the addresses listed in the FAQ, and they come
back dead. the
Prolog-2 support group address is valid, but i've never gotten a response back.

i figured that, before bugging tony again, i'd try finding the people who put
out the Prolog FAQ. i
finally got a hold of the newsgroups listings, and found this group (albiet
listed as possibly
defunct). being limited to Gopher (and begging friend to loan me their
machines), i don't have
the greatest access to internet tools. so if this is a question answered every
week or somewhere
in your archives, i apologize in advance:

*** THE QUESTION ***

it looks like the information in the most recent FAQ on Prolog-2 is erroneous.
ditto with the
READ.ME file posted with Prolog-2. could someone:

   1. supply me with the internet address of the current owners of Prolog-2?
   2. give me the story of what's going on with Prolog-2?
   3. fix (if it really is wrong) the Prolog FAQ?
   4. clue me in if i'm all wrong?
   5. suggest a reasonably priced Prolog that will run on my 286, if in fact
      Prolog-2 is dead?

finally, i was wondering if there was a way to contact this group via Gopher (i
fear the answer is
no; i have no net news reader).

---

i'm using a friend's account (yeah, he knows about it; he's looking over my
shoulder). you can
post back to this group, but if you want to write direct, i'm at:

   dcuny@hw1.cahwnet.gov

thanks!
